- Discuss the aetiology of preventable healthcare-associated infections
- Explore mechanisms to promote antimicrobial stewardship and manage antibiotic resistant organisms
- Engage in critical reflection to enhance personal and professional development

On completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the skills required to participate in the development of operational and strategic initiatives at local and national level.
- Appraise the ethical, legal and professional issues surrounding accountability and understand the consequences of failing to practise safely.
- Evaluate the decision making process, risk assessment, multi-professional and multi-disciplinary working, accountability and governance within complex situations, such as decontamination, outbreak management and the built environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to formulate, implement and evaluate learning and teaching strategies that promote quality and safe care.
- Examine and discuss core components of quality improvement and patient safety principles, approaches and application to service delivery.
During study of this module students will
- Explore the nature of research and examine its significance for health care practice.
- Demonstrate understanding of advanced literature searching and the ability to appraise literature that reports research.
- Demonstrate awareness of different ways of making sense of data.
