Eligibility
- Healthcare professionals working in Infectious Diseases, Health Protection, Infection Prevention, Infection Control or similar fields should apply to this course.
- A degree or equivalent in a social care, healthcare or similar, along with relevant work experience. A flexible Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) is available for students who do not hold a degree. This is evaluated on a case by case basis. Health practitioners have the opportunity of having previous significant learning and experience assessed for credit. Credits earned would go towards the course application.
- Evidence of English language ability may be requested if English is not the first language. The required proficiency level must be equivalent to IELTS 6.1

- critically evaluate epidemiological, audit and surveillance data to determine appropriate interventions to prevent and control infection

On completion of this module you will be able to:
- examine and discuss core components of infection prevention and control and their application to practice
- critically appraise the professional and accountability issues of infection prevention and control practice
- demonstrate the ability to formulate, implement and evaluate appropriate strategies to promote quality and safe patient care
- demonstrate the skills required to participate in the development and implementation of operational and strategic initiatives in infection prevention and control
- critically evaluate the decision-making process, risk assessment, multi-professional and multi-disciplinary working, accountability and governance within complex situations
This module is intended to provide you with fundamental understanding of evidence-based practice and research, enabling you to examine how these concepts can be used to advance professional practice.
- Overview of the concepts of evidence-based practice, research utilization and research
- Critical appraisal and synthesis of evidence
- Overview of key research traditions and approaches (quantitative and qualitative and evidence reviews)
- Key stages of the research process
- Data generation using a range of methods (observational and experimental studies; pre-existing documents or data sets; interviews; focus groups)
- Introduction to statistics and statistical analysis
- Introduction to qualitative data analysis and thematic coding
To be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, only 2 of the 3 core modules need to be undertaken.
